You're not Vincent Price,
You're Vincent Malloy
Vincent is a 1982
short story, writted and directed by Tim Burton and produced by Rick Heinrichs.
Is narrated by actor Vincent Price, a famous actor of horror films and
inspiration of Tim Burton. It’s a first film from Tim Burton, he used stop
motion techniques; that consist to make a physically manipulated object
appear to move on its own.
In this story, Tim Burton talks about Vincent Malloy (very similar to
Tim Burton appearance) a young and nice boy, who is obsessed with Vincent Price
and Edgar Allan Poe. This film shows two realitys of Vicent
Malloy; ‘’a nice and considerate boy, with a normal family and calm life’’, but
in his mind, ‘’a dark and mysterious boy, with vampires, spider, and
horrors’’. Also Vincent represents a contrast of reality/ fantasy; Vincent
create a life fantasy in his mind, an example is when he sometimes think ''his beautiful wife had been buried alive '', or his dog is converted in a ''zombie-dog'',''he invented experiments'' and he '' imagines dipping her in wax for his wax museum.
Another example is the moment when Vincent Malloy went crazy and he doesn’t
differentiate his real life ( with his family in a normal house), and fantasy
life ( with vampires, die wife, horrors and experiment ). But all
interpretation talks about the power of the mind, and the ability to create a
fictitious world, with dreams and delusions of what we want to be or become.
The message is ‘Be Yourself’, you can have something or someone that inspire you, but don’t confused reality with illusion or your dreams, the result can be disastrous... What is your interpretation, for this story?
‘’… and my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
shall be lifted, Never more..’’
